Celtics' Allen misses game with soreness in ankle - NBA.com

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston guard Ray Allen is out of Wednesday night's game against Atlanta because of soreness in his right ankle that had sidelined him a few weeks ago.

Allen, who played the previous five games after being sidelined for six with the sore ankle, informed coach Doc Rivers earlier in the day of the soreness.

"I'm just more concerned that this is the second or third time this has happened," Rivers said. "So that's concerning."

Allen, the NBA's career leader in 3-pointers, had been the team's offensive spark off the bench the past four games after Rivers decided to insert guard Avery Bradley into the starting lineup.

Boston did get guard Mickael Pietrus back. He had been sidelined the last 17 days due to a concussion.

Rivers said before Wednesday's game that he planned to play him maybe five to 10 minutes.

"He's been cleared," Rivers said. "He worked out yesterday. This is good for him to ease him in instead of just throwing him in. So that's how we're going to do it. The sooner we can get him on the floor, the better. All the doctors have cleared him. Once I hear that, he's ready to play."

Pietrus got a standing ovation when he entered Wednesday's game.

During a blowout loss at Philadelphia on March 23, Pietrus left the court on a stretcher and was hospitalized overnight.

He crashed to the court after he collided with 76ers guard Lou Williams on a drive down the lane, landing hard on his tailbone and his head nearly smacked the court. He instantly clutched the back of his head with both hands and rolled over on his side.
