Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith hit Vancouver's winger Daniel Sedin twice during the first period of their game on Wednesday.
TSN and ESPN reported that the NHL sought an in-person hearing with Keith over his hit to the head of Vancouver Canucks winger Daniel Sedin, but that he agreed to waive his right and talk with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan over the phone.
The hearing is at 2 p.m. ET.
An in-person hearing is scheduled if the penalty could end up being more than five games.
Keith, who never has been suspended or fined in his career, was hit by Sedin in the first period of Wednesday's game. Later, at 13:36 of the period, Sedin was watching a puck that was heading over his head when Keith stepped up and hit him with an elbow.
Sedin played one more shift before leaving the game and heading home for evaluation.
After Thursday's win at Dallas, Canucks captain Henrik Sedin addressed his brother's condition with reporters: "We all saw what happened, so there's going to be some symptoms after that. He went back today and he's got a little bit of a headache, and I think that comes with a hit like that. So we'll see what happens in the next couple days."
