Tonight the Pittsburgh Panthers will tip off with the Washington State Cougars to get started the College Basketball Invitational three-game championship series at 10:00 P.M. at the Wallis Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum in Pullman, Washington. The Panthers enter the game with a record of 20-16 while the Cougars come in at 18-16. It was a long, tough season for both ball clubs. The CBI championship series is a best of three.

As you can see, the Panthers lost the game, but not by a wide margin. They held their own against one of the best teams in the country, losing by a missed half-court hail mary. The competition won't be nearly as tough against Washington State, but they'll have to beat them twice. That's no easy task in Division I, no matter what team you're going up against.
These two programs are relative strangers to one another though. They've only met once before in a matchup Pittsburgh won comfortably by a score of 57-43 back in 2009 according to an article in the Chicago Tribune.

Much like Pitt, Washington State had a lackluster regular season, finishing below .500 both overall as well as in the Pac-12 Conference. The Cougars have been able to prove that their invite to the CBI was more than warranted however, as they have knocked off San Francisco, Wyoming and fellow league member Oregon State by at least 14 points, and the three-game win streak is second to only a six-game run the team had back in December. WSU is 11-3 in home games this season, including a perfect 6-0 against non-conference opponents.
