And here's more on this game:
Football games between the Gators and the Crimson Tide usually draw more attention than basketball games do, and understandably so; after Florida won consecutive national titles, Alabama has won two of the last three and the two programs are regularly among the nation's best. But while the Gators are a lock for the NCAA Tournament, the Tide needs to Roll (pun totally intended) through the SEC tournament in order to get to the Big Dance.
The NCAA tournament starts on Tuesday of next week with preliminary games in Dayton, Ohio. The real tournament starts on Thursday at lunch time. The top seeds in the NCAA tournament are likely to be Syracuse, Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas.
The winner will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday.
Here's more on the Alabama – Florida game from tampabay.com:
Freshman Trevor Lacey scored a team-high 15 and senior forward JaMychal Green added 12 to help Alabama to a 63-57 victory Thursday over South Carolina in the first round of the SEC tournament and set up a rematch with Florida today.
The Tide (21-10) took a 37-26 lead at halftime, but South Carolina made it interesting down the stretch. The Gamecocks went on an 11-1 run to tie it at 51 with 6:40 remaining but were unable to hold on late. Alabama hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 28 seconds to seal the win.
"I'm very proud of our guys for their effort," Tide coach Anthony Grant said. "It was a great win for us. From the beginning of the game our energy and effort was really good. Defensively the guys really locked in and did what we prepared to do.
