The Billikens are coming off a 7-point win over the Memphis Tigers, winning the game 61-54. It was a toss-up game between an 8 and 9 seed, but the Billikens left little doubt that they deserved to advance.
Michigan State took care of business against #16 Long Island, winning big by a final score of 89-67. The 22-point victory shouldn't be overly surprising as a 16 seed has never beaten a top ranked team. Michigan State showed exploited the gap in talent between the teams separated by 15 spots in the rankings.

The Billikens have a chance to remold themselves into a legitimate Division I basketball program after five years of preamble under Majerus; beating the Spartans and reaching the Sweet 16 would just about do it.
The winner of this game will go on to face the winner of the matchup between New Mexico and Louisville to represent the West in the Sweet Sixteen.
