Phantasy Star Online 2 Will Be Free-To-Play, Launches This Summer - Cinema Blend

Phantasy Star Online 2 for the PS Vita and PC will be launching this summer. Sega announced that closed-beta testing will commence at the end of April and that the game will be free-to-play.

Siliconera is reporting that Sega has plans to open up beta testing for 100,00 participants later on this April. The game will use the microtransaction model for items and accessories, so there is no price of entry for the game, and that should definitely open the game up to a huge audience.

The original PSO games were niche titles on various home consoles but the series never really kicked off as a huge success. They were pretty cool games insofar that they took the dungeon crawling experience from a typical RPG, but infused it with the action-oriented combat from a third-person hack-and-slash shooter, yet the entire thing was structured as an MMO. Sega definitely took a leap of faith with the series and there aren't many other MMOs out there quite like it.

What's more is that Sega has plans to make a mobile version of Phantasy Star Online 2 for the iOS and Android, and the game will supposedly support cross-platform interactivity. Supposedly the mobile game will be a "lite" version of the PC/PS Vita version with character data and stat tracking with a greater focus on social interactivity.

As mentioned, the game is scheduled to launch this summer and you can learn more by paying a visit to the Phantasy Star Online Community Website.
